These Design Studios and Makers Are Raising Funds for Relief in India

India is in crisis and needs our help. The destructive second wave of the coronavirus has seen hospitals overwhelmed and with a widespread need for more oxygen and medicine. “We are waking up every day to SOS messages searching for oxygen cylinders, ambulances, and hospital beds,” says Soft-Geometry founders Utharaa Zacharias and Palaash Chaudhary, who reached out to us via email. “Our own parents, families, and friends are trying to stay another day without a grocery run.”

The Indian design studio, known for its furniture and home objects themed around the idea of softness, has created a dedicated page on its website with nine vetted fundraisers along with organizations doing critically important work—some that are tasked to build oxygen plants; some that procure and deliver oxygen cylinders and refills; some that are distributing food and essential kits, ambulance services, and so on. The studio is also doing a raffle for one of its beautiful lamps.

And, as is often the case, many members of the design world have banded together to help and have created raffles of their own to help raise funds for India. Utharaa and Palaash are currently helping Arati Rao, of Tantuvi, create a list of brands doing fundraising, so check back here for updates as the list is added to.

The latest raffle list of designers: Soft.Geometry, Tantuvi, Block Shop Textiles, Sunday Monday, Andrea Gentl, Ace and Jig, Seek Collective, Christine Chitnis, and Cold Picnic.
